Plasma MD Q & A

What is the PRX Derm Perfection Treatment?

The Plasma Pen helps to reduce lines and wrinkles by kickstarting the body’s natural collagen production process. Results include skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, lifting, firming, and toning, reduced pore size, reduced uneven pigment and redness, and overall improved tone and texture. The pen works by converting electrical energy into electrostatic energy to create a plasma “arc.” There is a small flash or “discharge” created by the pen that heats up the dermis and creates a micro wound in the epidermis. These tiny wounds are what lead to the creation of collagen, as inflammation causes increased blood flow to the area, leaving behind new collagen and elastin cells.

Am I a candidate?

The best way to know if you are a candidate is to set up a consultation where we will do a comprehensive health history and skin assessment.

What is the downtime?

The Plasma MD pen treatment is a quick, easy, low-risk procedure with minimal discomfort or side effects. The downtime after the procedure is about 7-10 days while the skin heals.

When will I see the benefits of Plasma MD?

PlasmaMD creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which results in some immediate firming. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing response, triggering the growth of new collagen and elastin in the weeks and months following treatment. Treated skin will continue to gradually improve over three to six months.

Are there any contraindications to getting the Plasma MD treatment?

All Plasma MD treatments require a full consultation with our R.N. The following are contraindications, which we would not treat.

  • Breastfeeding or pregnant
  • Hemophilia
  • Hepatitis
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Vitiligo
  • Lupus
  • Retinal detachment
  • Prone to hyperpigmentation
  • History of keloid scars
  • Latex or anesthetic allergies
  • Antabuse
  • Anti-coagulants
  • Gold therapy for Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Accutane
  • Steroids or cortisone (when topically used on the treatment area)

If you have any other health issues or concerns, please be sure to let us know before we treat you.

How many treatments do I need?

Results may be noticed in as little as one week, with continued improvement up to 12 weeks. While results after one treatment are significant, areas with excessive laxity or deeper wrinkles may require a second treatment. The entire process for the maturation and strengthening of collagen cells takes about 12 weeks. In order to avoid disrupting the natural healing and collagen production process, we wait the full 12 weeks before completing another treatment in the same area.
